Week 7

Masters of the Mediocre

It’s Week 7 of ‘A View from Row Z’, your uninformed take on the various happenings in the CeeDee Compilation Bowl Fantasy League. As I move to over 1000 PF and 7-0, 5 coaches are stuck on 3-4. As the saying goes, ‘Mediocre is easy, that’s why it’s popular’, so let’s try to be better, yeah?

Hola Amigos! Ya estoy de regreso de México! ¿Cómo se siente ser un fan de Jags, Reece? 😁 A bad outing for the London team when the Rams came to town. Still, it could be worse. You could be on the sidelines having to be positive about it in front of 86,152 fans. You did great Reece, unlike the entire Jags team. Top job! Anyways, I digress. Thanks to Matt Hulme© for holding the fort whilst I was away. An absolute stonker of a report. Much funnier than anything I’ve ever written. I guess that’s why we have the jobs we do 🤷🏻‍♂️. A flurry of activity in the waivers- Kyle Pitts picked up, then dropped two days later once Matt came to his senses, and Rich and Mike competed for who could make the most roster moves in a week. Just about worked for Rich, not so much for Mike.

Week 7 Score: Third Time Charmers (158.91) 7-0 // Shadeurs Support Group (76.79) 0-7

Much like the Jags this week, Reece’s team performed as expected. Reece is now starting to creep up behind Dali’s 0-12 record with the sort of certainty that comes with knowing that death and the taxman are both an inevitability in life. I even had the luxury of playing the fit again George Kittle for 0pts, and Puka and Wilson both OUT on my bench, without really raising a concerned eyebrow from my sunlounger and new favourite drink, a Mezcalita. A week of highlights for me, but CMC (39.10pts), is top of the list. Whatever glue is being used to hold his legs together is worth buying in bulk. A round of applause to the 49ers medical team. Great effort. Two highlights for Reece’s poor showing in Rashee Rice (23.20pts) and Travis Hunter (24.10pts) finally getting himself into the double digits this season. Shout out to both DEFs as well, both in the -ve numbers. Excellent.

Week 7 Score: Dali’s Salvadors (124.72) 6-1 // Breece Lightning (112.24) 3-4

A tale as old as time in this one. Winning is about picking the right players, and sadly, Mike has fallen afoul of this again this week. Posting the week's least efficient team, his optimal line-up would have gotten him a decent 142.04pts. A win, if nothing changed. However, Dali had the week’s second least efficient team and should have posted an excellent 153.8pts. Anyways, this was a good match up. Both -Ks scored well, McPherson (17.0pts) and Aubrey (23.0pts). Mike kinda lost it with 4 players scoring under 10pts and Dali won it with a little more consistency from Jacobs (18.80pts), Kraft (16.80pts) and CeeDee Lamb, bringing home a solid 25.0pts, after being out for three weeks. Dali marches forward as my closest competitor, going 6-1, and Mike joins the ranks of mediocrity to go 3-4 with 5 other losers coaches.

Week 7 Score: SnowshufflerJr (132.59) 2-5 // NobodyNeedsGoodNabers (162.91) 3-4

An up and down season for both of these coaches, with a little more down for Jen. However, Matt Hulme© got the ‘W’ with the week's second-highest score and most efficient team. Gibbs (39.80pts) had an excellent week, backed up by a trio of brilliant scores from Olave (26.80pts), Addison (21.80pts) and DeVonta Smith, making the most of his opportunities this week with a whopping 36.30pts. A strong week indeed. To be very fair to Jen, she had this week’s highest losing score, and would have beaten 6 other teams had the fixtures been a little kinder. However, picking the right players and playing the right team always helps and the 5th ‘L’ of the season was collected. A little more efficiency would have gotten the score to 154.69pts with an optimal line-up, but still not enough to win. A bitter pill, even with Hurts (27.04pts), NE DEF (21.75pts) and Amon-Ra St. Brown (20.60pts) racking up good points hauls. Let’s hope for better luck next week.

Week 7 Score: Game of Throws (171.59) 5-2 // Multiple Goregasms (99.06) 3-4

This week Betsy (sic - thanks Matt) took an absolute pasting. Besty’s losing alter-ego was in full force with a 72.53pts loss. Even Bo Nix scoring 38.96pts didn’t put a dent in what can only be described as a total collapse for the heart of this team. 6 players scoring under 10pts. I think Betsy needs to re-evaluate the plan for Week 8 and maybe play Jefferson (12.90pts) next time around. It looks like you forgot to check your team. Maybe a nudge is required for Week 8. Well done to Andy for the highest score of the week to go 5-2. Impressive stuff from Taylor (34.20pts), Chase (38.10pts), Allen (28.90pts) and McBride (29.40pts) to keep Andy in the hunt for one of the elusive BYE weeks in the playoffs. Also, a little hopeful to rely on Goff (9.34pts) to get you over the 200pt mark. I thought you took this seriously, Andy?

Week 7 Score: A Tadd McShonkey (124.04) 3-4 // Clapton Cats (117.07) 3-4

A tight last game of the week from the other two coaches who are now 3-4. I’ve done the maths and nothing would have changed the outcome, but it would have been a 0.87pt game if optimal line-ups were set. Robinson (28.10pts) and Brown (28.10pts) were highlights for Rich and Judkins (26.40pts) and Adams (26.50pts), were the same for Zan. It was a bit of a dry affair though. Some might say, the level of mediocrity. Others may say, boring. Me? I just wanted Rich to lose. But you can’t always get what you want, right? Anyways, I am very jet-lagged and this matchup was too boring to go into detail on 😴. Sorry.

And Week 7 flies by and I hope that this league breaks free of mediocrity and starts turning in some big results. Does anyone want to make the playoffs? I’m looking forward to my matchup with Dali. It should be a tight game and I am sure you are all hoping I will retain my winning streak. Otherwise, Betsy, let’s see you be a bit more Besty 😆

According to Sleeper, our top picks on the waivers include:

Daniel Jones - QB

Nick Chubb - RB

Khalil Shakir - WR

Hunter Henry - TE

Tyler Loop - K

Buffalo Bills - DEF
