Week 14

Playoff Ready

It’s Week 14 of ‘A View from Row Z’, your uninformed take on the various happenings in the CeeDee Compilation Bowl Fantasy League. With the playoff spots decided, it’s only the seedings that mattered. As Jim Mora said, “Playoffs! You kidding me? I just hope we can win another game!”

It’s Week 14, and let’s be honest, the heat has fallen out of the league. Jen has all but given up. Reece has been ghosting us since Week 9’s win over Jen, and despite valiant efforts, Matt and Mike couldn’t get themselves out of the Bowl. So, it’s down to the rest of us to keep things spicy. And this week served up a very close match up for Dali and Andy, with Andy just needing to beat Reece to take the remaining BYE week. Andy was the busiest this week, making sure he put himself in the best possible position for the playoffs, with a pickup of Mike Evans, who looks to be coming back in Week 15. Forward planning. He means business.

Week 14 Score: Dali’s Salvadors - W (103.59) 10-4 // NobodyNeedsGoodNabers - L (102.12) 5-9

Dali needed this win. His last gasp at the elusive BYE week. And by the skin of his teeth, he made it happen. Despite having a double stack of QBs on his bench, he was the week’s most efficient coach, with potential for only 109.31pts. If Matt had made better choices, he would have scored 118.18pts and would have taken the win. A massive 37.0pts for Gibbs was the highlight from an otherwise underwhelming performance. Nice idea to bring Daniels (2.72pts) into the fold, but caution and a ‘sore’ elbow kept him out of the matchup. As for Dali, it was a middling performance from the team, nobody went over 20pts and 4 players were way under 10pts. He got the win but it didn’t help. He slips to 3rd in the standings and plays Betsy in the first round of the playoffs. Good luck.

Previous Score Week 5: Dali’s Salvadors W (135.96) // NobodyNeedsGoodNabers L (117.67)

Week 14 Score: Game of Throws - W (144.06) 10-4 // Shedeurs Support Group - L (72.34) 1-13

In the week's most predictable scoreline, Andy absolutely decimated Reece, delivering the week’s largest ‘curb-stomp’. It could have been even worse if he had played his waiver pickup Blake Corum, and picked up the optimum 170.46pts. In a performance that can only indicate he has totally given up, Reece had 6 players that scored under 6pts. La Porta remains on the IR list and Parker Washington was OUT. A double-edged sword for you Reece- the Jags win, but yet again, you failed to show up. I can’t see it going any other way except Shit King for the second year on the trot. PROVE ME WRONG REECE. Please! Nice work Andy. You have cemented your 2nd place and will benefit from the BYE week. Massive score from Michael Wilson (37.20pts) and a cool 24.90pts from Christian Watson. You’re coming up at the right time and are definitely in the running to take a 2nd title, if you can sustain the pressure.

Previous Score Week 5: Game of Throws W (142.52) // Shedeurs Support Group L (111.99)

Week 14 Score: Third Time Charmers - W (161.44) 12-2 // Multiple Goregasms - L (106.73) 7-7

I’m not spending too much time on this one. There wasn’t anything really to play for, and it was an inevitable big win over Betsy, who also seems to have fallen off the wagon this season. Nacua returned to form with 35.70pts, and was ably backed up by the return to form of JSN (27.10pts) and Cameron Dicker (the Kicker), scoring a very nice 20.0pts. Betsy really had nothing to show for another average week. 5 players in the teens and with Jefferson (3.10pts) well off the boil, and Andrews (1.90pts) still well below where you’d expect him to be, it was a tough weekend. Betsy goes into the playoffs against Dali. Another battle of South Shields and probably the pick of the bunch for Week 15.

Previous Score Week 5: Third Time Charmers W (176.18) // Multiple Goregasms L (114.13)

Week 14 Score: Breece Lightning - L (112.90) 5-9 // Clapton Catz - W (120.59) 8-6

Another super close game, but not a lot to play for, as both rookie coaches approach the playoffs in very different positions. Zan came into the real deal playoffs with a decent tally, despite his team pretty much wholesale shitting the bed. Well played to Josh Allen and the week’s highest individual score of 37.84pts! Aside from that, it was pretty much average, and the form is probably a little worrying as you go up against Rich next week. As for Mike, a valiant effort. A commissioner assist went your way as you replaced for TE late in the day, but you had already missed that Rome Odunze was out earlier in the game week. An incredible score from Brandon Aubrey (29.0pts) reminding everyone that Kickers are people too. A nice score from Barkley (21.20pts) made everything a little more respectable. But ultimately a loss. You play Jen next week and to be brutally honest, I think this one is in the bag.

Previous Score Week 5: Breece Lightning L (118.82) // Clapton Catz W (124.07)

Week 14 Score: SnowshufflerJr - L (80.95) 4-10 // A Tadd McShonkey - W (133.81) 8-6

This matchup was a tale of a competent juggernaut vs gently flailing swimmer. Rich posted 133.8pts while Jen landed at 80.95pts with a more light cardio than heavy lifting approach. Rich carried 55.16pts on the bench, including Travis Etienne (21.2pts), and still won easily. Jen’s bench had only mild regrets, with just 8.8pts missed. The optimum was 89.75pts, proof the ceiling wasn’t far away. Rich’s optimal score was 159.61pts, giving him 25.8pts of wiggle room going unused like a forgotten gym membership. In short, Rich jogged to a comfy win and Jen improved week-over-week, but still needs a life raft to get her through the Toilet Bowl. Perhaps a pep talk or a ceremonial burning of the Week 14 playbook is in order to turn her fortunes around?

Week 14 was a bit of a damp squib. Andy got the BYE week, Dali didn’t. Reece lost, I didn’t. Predictability all around us. We need something to spice up these playoffs. Everyone on their game for Week 15. Don’t aim to be the Shit King. This is Reece’s and Reece’s title alone. I can sense Andy is really fancying his chances, but I am trying to maintain my form and last the distance for the final three weeks. Come on everyone, let’s step it up!

According to Sleeper, our top picks on the waivers include, but are not limited to:

Brock Purdy - QB

Kenneth Gainwell - RB

Khalil Shakir - WR

Harold Fannin - TE
