What Row Z knows about you, which is not much, and what it does with it.

Who is responsible
Row Z is run by Matt O’Daly, a person rather than a company. For anything on this page — a question, a copy of what is held about you, or a request to remove it — email hello@rowz.uk.
Reading the site
There are no accounts, no adverts, no analytics and no tracking cookies. Reading Row Z sets no cookies at all.
The site is hosted by Vercel, which, like any web host, handles the technical details a visit involves — your IP address, for one — to deliver the page and keep the service secure. The fonts are served from rowz.uk itself.
Things on the site from elsewhere
Some of the news thumbnails load straight from The Guardian’s image servers, so your browser asks them for the picture, as it would for any website.
Videos in an issue use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player. It loads when you scroll to it, and YouTube sets no cookies unless you press play; once you do, Google’s privacy policy applies to what happens in the player.
Links to news stories, Sleeper and anywhere else take you to those sites, under their own policies.
The newsletter
If you sign up, your email address goes to Buttondown, the service Row Z uses to send A View From Row Z by email. Buttondown sends you an email asking you to confirm, and nothing else is sent until you do.
Your address is used to send you the newsletter and for nothing else, because you asked for it. It is never sold, shared, or added to anything else. Buttondown holds it on Row Z’s behalf, with a record of when you subscribed, on servers in the United States; the transfer is covered by the standard contract terms UK law requires, set out in Buttondown’s data processing agreement. Open and click tracking is switched off, so nobody can see whether you read an issue.
Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also unsubscribe by emailing hello@rowz.uk. Your address is kept until you do. If you would rather it was deleted from Buttondown altogether, say so and it will be.
Finding your league
Members of the other leagues Row Z covers sign in by typing their Sleeper username. Row Z asks Sleeper which account that is and which leagues it is in, and does not keep the username.
It then sets one cookie, which holds your Sleeper account number and a signature proving Row Z issued it. That cookie is what lets you back into your league’s pages, it is used for nothing else, and it expires after 90 days. You can delete it from your browser at any time; you will just be asked for your username again.
If you are in the league
The site publishes the league’s results under coaches’ names and team names, and the newsletter writes about all of you. If you would like your name, or anything else about you, changed or taken off the site, email hello@rowz.uk and it will be done.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of anything Row Z holds about you, have it corrected or deleted, and withdraw your consent to the newsletter at any time. Email hello@rowz.uk. If you are not happy with the answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
