It’s Week 1 of ‘A View from Row Z’, your uninformed take on the various happenings in the CeeDee Compilation Bowl Fantasy League. It’s a new season and a fresh start. As Ant & Dec so eloquently put it, “Let’s get ready to rumble”.

Opening week. The wait is over. Two early games, but the real chaos didn’t start until Sunday evening. The headline is that Dali got his first win of the season 12 weeks earlier than last season. Now I have to think up some new material - thanks Dali. Some early pickups straight after the draft, two of the most audacious trades proposed to me and Matt Hulme ©, and Reece increasing his glut of Jags players into his roster before Week 1 kicked off. There must be something in the water in Mexico. No other explanation, surely.

Week 1 Score: Third Time Charmers (132.85) // A Tadd McShonkey (107.22)

This year’s #1 draft picker versus #10. Both first picks, Robinson (27.40pts) and CMC (23.20pts), were the top performers and surprisingly CMC’s calves held up for the duration, after getting more reps than anticipated due to Kittle being declared out in the first half. A.J. Brown (1.80pts) was largely anonymous for the Eagles, and the meat and potatoes of Rich’s team, barely made it out of single digits. Week 1 jitters for Rich. Does he need to get busy on the waivers? This week’s least efficient team at 73% scored 107.22pts from a possible 146.82pts, and just to rub salt in the wound, also had the most points on the bench. Ouch. On the other hand, Rich’s loss was my gain and I got a nice W under my belt for Week 1. Nacua (23.10pts) definitely looked the part, despite temporarily leaving the field for a concussion check. Tua he ain’t. I have big problems at QB, so some surgery is required there…in a week with audacious trades, maybe Reece can trade me for one of his three - preferably Jackson (29.36pts). Please?

Week 1 Score: Dali’s Salvadors (113.81) // Shadeurs Support Group (110.16)

This was my favourite matchup of Week 1. A replay of last year’s S**t King title. Would Dali get a win? Would Reece’s haphazard draft bring joy as the Overlord predicted? Reece went heavy on Jags players for his line-up, with four players making a start. His faith was not rewarded. A combined 34.5pts, with Cam Little (15pts) bringing home the lion’s share. A small adjustment of Robinson (4.70pts), for new pickup Bigsby (1.20pts), would have given him the win. The ever dependable Jackson (29.36pts) kept you in the matchup, and as always with these two coaches, it was another super close game. Unsurprisingly, Reece lost by another slim margin - a recurring theme he has brought over from last season. Dali had a solid team performance here, his best scoring player was Herbert, with a massive 27.92pts, but he left him warming the bench. A win is a win and Dali makes the best start possible. Sighs of relief from Dali, sighs of despair from Reece as he looks to trade his way out of his RB issue.

Week 1 Score: Multiple Goregasms (79.59) // Clapton Catz (150.36)

Where to start. Week One was about as successful for Besty as Newcastle United’s summer transfer window. He was absolutely blown out of the water by this year's resident sniper, Zan. The rookie (for our league) coach picked off the veteran with the week's highest score. Besty, you know you have issues when your Kicker (Boswell - 20pts) is your star player for the week. Bo Nix (5.84pts) was a no-show for the season opener, but even with some favourable scores on the bench, you wouldn’t have stood a chance against Zan. Allen (38.76pts) and Henry (28.3pts) were by far and away the highlights. Almost 70pts between them. Last year's MVP showed there was no rust on him for this season. So Besty had the worst draft, worst season outlook and the worst Week 1 score. Not exactly silencing the doubters. You’ve got work to do for Week 2 to turn this ship around. Zan, you can load in another bullet to take down your next victim in Week 2. Will the Silent Sniper strike again for Week 2?

Week 1 Score: Game of Throws (109.22) // EverybodyNeedsGoodNabers (104.42)

Last season's Champion kicked his season off with the rightful rejection of one of Reece’s audacious trades with an L. A close game with Andy, who, let’s be honest with ourselves, did not have the upside he was hoping for with the Burrow (8.82pts) & Chase (4.60pts) stack. Under 10pts for the pair of them. Not sure many would have bet it going that way, but here we are. Decent performance from Sutton (18.10pts) and the week’s best DEF, Broncos (19.50pts). Solid performance to sneak in the W. Matt Hulme © had two decent performances from Kyler Murray (18.32pts) and James Cook (21.20pts), and then the week’s highest-scoring and now potentially injured Brock Bowers (15.30pts), were highlights for the Champion, but judging by your very well-stocked bench, maybe a review of your starters is in order 😉.

Week 1 Score: SnowshufflerJr (101.33) // Breece Lightning (133.17)

The week’s final matchup. Another rookie vs veteran matchup. I think Jen took the defeat well. Life is hard being a Seahawks fan after all. Mike started very strongly, putting up the second highest score of the week, with three players hitting +20pts, with Mahomes (26.02pts) and Wilson (22.50) the standouts. Underperformance for Hill (8pts), who in the wake of fresh, domestic violence allegations, may receive a suspension from the NFL. Maybe one to keep an eye on. Jen had the second highest bench score of the week, with Samuel (22.60pts) and rookie Egbuke (23.60pts), looking like likely starters next week. Tough to find any positives, except Jalen Hurts scoring 24.28pts. I’m spent. GO SEAHAWKS.

That’s it. Week 1 is over. Waivers submitted this evening and some with more work to do than others, Besty. It was the week of the rookies, who definitely showed us they mean business for the remainder of the season. Be warned.
