Week 4

It’s Week 4 of ‘A View from Row Z’, your uninformed take on the various happenings in the Leytonstoners Bowl Fantasy League. This week's newsletter is a little late - apologies - I have been travelling home from a week in the sunshine. Here we go!

Waiver Wire Review

Andy definitely made a few changes this week, making 4 waiver wire pickups after his dismal performance in Week 3. Looks to have been the right choice especially with his QB pickup, but more on that later. Dali is still making moves looking to find the right combination for his Week 4.

Let’s start with the winners this week and top of the bunch, just, is Matt Hulme’s Lambs to the Slaughter. First of all, a great team name change and the accompanying team badge each week is fast becoming a highlight for me. On to the football, it was super close at the top and Matt just came out on top with 162.55pts. Top performances all over his roster. Massive score for The Niners Defense and also standout performances from Stroud and Lamb. Top effort!

Next in line was Jen’s SnowshufflerJr trailing Matt H by 0.82pts. A slightly better choice of TE would have swung it for the highest score of the week. Tough one, but still managed a dominating win to go 3-1 and top the league table with a massive PF tally of 572.86pts. Is Jen hitting her stride? Can she keep it up in the coming weeks? Safe money says, yes. It could be tough for us all to reel it back.

Leytonstoners came in 3rd highest this week with a cool 156.54pts in a strong win against Reece. 2nd lowest bench score as well so he was very efficient. Lamar Jackson and Nico Collins were the standout performers by a decent margin. Dropping the Bills Defense for the Chiefs, meant there wasn’t a negative score in the team. Despite the bench efficiency, he should have started Jameson Williams which would have given him this week’s highest points score. Tight margins and tough decisions.

Last of the winners was Andy’s Game of Throws. A change in fortune from last week and also the week's slimmest win margin. Plenty of change in the waivers for Andy, most changes warmed the bench, but one standout performer was rookie Jayden Daniels, coming straight into the starting line up and getting an impressive 26.02pts in his first outing for the team. A much needed change in fortune for Andy as he goes 2-2 with a long way to go to climb out of 7th place in the standings.

So, the losers. We’ll start with Reece as the highest scoring loser. The imaginatively named Team Reeceparkinson got a kicking this week. No commissioner assist to help him out, with Rich charitably letting him know 48 mins after KO that Tank Dell was out and that there is no auto-sub for the league. Costly error, but unlikely to have made a difference in the grand scheme of things. The Sam Darnold pickup is still delivering for the second week running, but if he wants that 2-2 record to change, there’s going to need to be less rookie errors. You can’t afford more slip ups.

Next up is Multiple Goregasms. A loss in the week’s tightest matchup, but when you look at the 64.3pts on the bench, you have to think that this wasn’t one of your Besty-est weeks. An under performance from the Steelers defence and a quiet game from Barkley all contributed to this week’s loss. On the brightside though Kelce seems to have finally turned up and hopefully finds a run of form. Let’s see if you can turn it around next week!

God Bless Ramerica had a second consecutive loss, getting snow shuffled by Jen. Sleeper even labelled the performance as worst of the week, setting the worst line-up and only scoring 80% of the perfect possible line-up (135.9pts) Even Derrick Henry’s manhandling of the Bills defence didn’t help. Let down AGAIN by Pitts, who drew a blank against the Saints. Embarrassing stuff. Breece Hall had a terrible week only registering 4 rushing yards in 10 carries and Josh Allen had a poor game by his standards, only managing 7.3pts, his season worst performance. A worrying run of form for the Commissioners team who really needs a big performance in Week 5.

And so we have to talk again about Dali and his Salvadors. It’s not working for him right now and seemingly needs a miracle to turn around a 0-4 record. I’m not sure where to start, but the dropped Goff from a couple of weeks ago, would have been an asset this week with a perfect game. The bench scored only 23.38pts, so there is no help there, but it’s looking harder and harder to see that first win come about. What will the veteran fantasy coach do to turn his fortunes around? Can he do anything? A tough few weeks are coming up for Dali, with actual real life NFL games being a distraction as the show rolls into town for the London games. Come on Dali. I want this win for you so bad!

Next up, Week 5. Dali again with the first pick in the waivers and I hope his winless streak comes to end against Game of Throws. My pick of the matchups is God Bless Ramerica vs Leytonstoners, in the Commissioner head to head matchup. Maybe there should be a forfeit? If I win, then Rich has to write the review for Week 5? We shall see!
