Week 1 — Row Z

As Week 1 has come to a close, I wanted to try and challenge myself to do a quick recap to summarise the week with stats (made up or real) and hopefully spark some healthy competition. I cannot vouch for the accuracy or comedy value of my commentary, but I thought it might be fun. So...here goes.

Rich’s reigning champions and #1 pick, Leytonstoners started their defence of the title in fine form by scoring the lowest amount of points in Week 1. Is there a touch of complacency after last season's victory? Maybe last season was a fluke. Or perhaps it was the first pick, CMC, being injured and having an insufficient bench to cover him…we shall see as the season unfolds. First pick of the waivers may offer a way back after an absolute demolition in Week 1.

Solid(ish) start from Reece's Team Reeceparkinson after a small slip up in the lead up to Week 1, where the rookie coach decided to make things interesting by dropping Kittle to see if anyone else was paying attention…otherwise a Week 1 opening loss, despite the Bears having one of the best scores for a defensive team, made it look closer than it was.

Our other rookie coach, Matt Hulme for Lamb Madras, started with a very respectable points tally, but starts 0-1, having made the unenviable move to keep the week's highest scoring player nice and warm on the bench. Not that it would have made a difference against his opponents' ridiculous points total. As Matt has changed his team name once already this season, maybe he will continue the trend and a change for Week 2 is on the cards? How many NFL team name puns can Matt Hulme come up with without using Google?

SnowshufflerJr scored good points this week, all while living the NFL dream and seeing two games on the road in the opening weekend. Her total domination of the meek scoring Leytonstoners was fun to see, but will the jet lag affect Jen's judgement for Week 2, or can momentum be built (assuming you are travelling back to the UK of course)?

Besty’s Multiple Goregasms started the season with a relatively tight win over Dali’s Salvadors. Besty started the week strongly, with the early game from Brazil, but sadly found a few positions lacking as the weekend progressed…off to the waiver wire to strengthen or some better decisions with your bench…?

It seems Week 1 was a difficult one for Dali. I think his mind was elsewhere listening to Kendrick Lamar records and trying to find at least one track he likes. Not sure Goff was the right pick for QB, considering Tua was on the bench and looking at who is available on the waivers. May need to have a quiet word with his WRs too...big under- performance there. Could and should do better next week.

Andy's Game of Throws got a monster points haul…perhaps a signal of intent from the seasoned fantasy coach, starting as he means to go on. Good to see the Cooper Kupp cheat code is still active this season and also showing everyone how to do it, keeping his bench points the 2nd lowest in the league. He may find himself taking a look at the waivers to strengthen at TE- Kincaid wasn’t at the races with a miserly 2.10.

Winning start from God Bless Ramerica, but probably rolled the dice a little too heavily with Davante Adams in the starting lineup and a very poor showing from the Ravens defence could have cost dearly considering the matchup was the closest of the week. The less than ideal choice to have a Jets RB and WR in the starting lineup probably raised a few eyebrows from the more informed among us and the second highest bench score means a rethink for Week 2. Would someone dare make a trade offer for either Jets player so Matt can spread the risk a little more evenly? Offers welcome...

So, we head into Week 2 with work to do. Seems most of us struggled in the TE department, so the waivers could be spicy with Isaiah Likely being a potential top target for most coaches. Waivers are only 1 day before it moves to Free Agency and Rich has the first pick, good luck.
