Week 12

It’s Week 12 of ‘A View from Row Z’, your vaguely informed take on the madcap happenings in the Leytonstoners Bowl Fantasy League. After last week’s rollercoaster ride, it’s only Dali that continued to ride it. The rest was relatively predictable.

At the end of Week 12, the top and bottom of the table remains unchanged. Rich is gliding along at the top and Dali is flailing around at the bottom, praying for some luck and that, apparently, elusive first win. Besty has steadily made his way to 2nd in the table, with an excellent run of form. It’s Matt H and Reece competing for that last playoff spot in an all or nothing run-in. To be fair, I should keep my mouth shut as I could quite easily step into that battle if I am not careful. Fairly busy on the waivers with some teams falling into the 6 team BYE week - I think it’s fair to say that Rich’s pickup of Courtland Sutton was the pick of the bunch.

I’m getting it out of the way early. When I am winning, I love Fantasy Football. This week I hated it. 4 players on a BYE, DJ Moore on the bench with his 2nd highest score of this season, underperformance from the Chiefs DEF, and Brian Robinson injured in the first quarter. A painful week at the office and my single, alternative choice would have made no difference whatsoever. My co-commissioner had a good week, if a little lucky. Lamar (26.58pts), waiver pickup Courtland Sutton (29.7pts), with a season’s best score, and the Packers DEF (15pts), having a great week too. I can only hope Week 13 brings a little more success as I look to secure a lowly spot in the playoffs. It also means that I haven’t beaten Rich since last season. The ghosts of the Fantasy Football playoff final still loom large.

Week 12 Score: Multiple Goregasms (167.96) // Lambrini (125.81)

I mean Besty, 5 wins in 5 weeks. A big end of season surge propelling Multiple Goregasms to 2nd in the table. Mostly carried this week by Saquon’s huge 52.2pts haul and ably assisted by Meyers (22.10pts) and Pollard (21.9pts). He even had the space to leave Waddle (28.4pts) on the bench and keep the gap to a respectable 42.15pts. On the other side of this matchup was Matt H, who seems to have finally run out of steam with the CeeDee Lamb related puns (it was fun while it lasted). To be fair to Matt, there were some excellent scores in his team, but some players, Jonathan Taylor (2.5pts), had an absolute stinker. I think this is one of those weeks you can’t do much about. Just ask Dali- he’s used to it.

Week 12 Score: SnowshufflerJr (131.71) // Changed like OchoCinco (110.70)

A relatively narrow win for Jen in her matchup with Reece. Only 21.01pts in it, but there was nothing Reece could have done differently. A zero bench score due to one injury, and the rest on a BYE, meant Reece is crowned the week’s most Efficient Manager. With that efficiency, he promptly lost again, his only win in the last 7 weeks has been against Dali and I’m not convinced that is something anyone should be proud of at this point. Darnold (25.10pts) and Kittle (20.20pts) were the standouts, although a nice pickup at K saw a good return of 12pts. The rest of the team, however, failed to set the world on fire. Jen relied on the referees in the Chiefs game for a decent Mahomes fantasy score and the Texans DEF had another superb gameweek. Yet again the SnowshufflerJr machine rolls on and on, grinding out those wins with efficiency and large bench scores.

Week 12 Score: Game of Throws (147.60) // Dali’s Salvadors (129.51)

If I closed my eyes and typed, I think I could write the review for Darren ‘My Other League’ Ali’s matchup easily. In fact, I think slamming my head against the keyboard would perfectly articulate all of our feelings towards this 12-game losing streak and what now has to be described as the unluckiest season in our Fantasy League history. It was the closest matchup of the week, with only 18.09pts between the two teams. Dali clocked the biggest bench score (74.18pts) and it was a week of ‘What If’s’ for the poor, wee lad from Geordieland. Despite early predictions of this gameweek being all about Aaron Jones sitting on the bench, it was all really on the QB choice. Mayfield (17.66pts) stuttered and Tua had a 36.48pts game. Just one switch would have given Dali the win by 0.73pts. Andy, much like Matt H last week, is breathing a sigh of relief that better choices were not made. Daniels (37.4pts) had another great game and McLaurin (24.2pts) had a great return as well. Still, I really believe the Football Gods were in your favour rather than against Dali.

At this point, it should be rightfully mentioned that Dali would have won if he had played me, Rich, Reece or Matt H. A sobering thought. Week 13 is actually Thanksgiving Weekend, not last week as I mistakenly thought. So Dali has a second chance to finally be thankful for setting the right line-up. He plays SnowshufflerJr. I will be honest, I don’t fancy his chances. I have #1 pick of the Waivers and I shall try to make it count. I had to drop Josh Allen last week, so I will pick him up again for the run-in I think. My pick of the matchups will definitely be Multiple Goregasms vs Leytonstoners. A big top-of-the-table clash. I hope, with all sincerity, that Besty absolutely takes my friend and co-commissioner apart like an old bicycle. Good luck 🙂
